Annie Godbout was installed as the official candidate for the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP) in the riding of Richmond for the upcoming 2018 general election on Sunday at an investiture ceremony held in Windsor. Godbout’s candidacy follows the announcement earlier this year by current Member of the National Assembly Karine Vallières that she will not be seeking re-election in order to spend more time with her family.

"It's a privilege and an honour to take over from the Vallières family. I am a woman of action, and my political engagement takes place on the ground, in contact with citizens,” said Godbout. “In the coming months I will criss-cross the riding of Richmond to meet with elected officials, organizations and residents, to listen to them and further my understanding of the issues in the region. My objective is clear: to be a sizeable ally in making the projects that we care about move forward."

A member of Sherbrooke’s city council since 2013, Godbout highlighted her interest in citizen engagement as a key aspect of her approach to politics.

“I know that citizen involvement helps advance projects,” the candidate said. “I am making this leap into provincial politics in order to further my commitment to work, in concert with all the partners, towards the well-being of the communities and the economic prosperity of the entire Richmond riding.”
