Carrie Underwood returns to American Idol as guest mentor
Iam not a fan of American Idol, but I sometimes make an exception and watch it if they offer something special. For those who, like me, need a special reason to watch it, here is some information: Carrie Underwood will be a part of the next episode.
As was announced during Idol’s live show on Sunday, May 6, Carrie Underwood will return to American Idol as a superstar guest mentor this Sunday, May 13, for a live show airing on ABC 8:00 PM that will also offer an exclusive look the new music video for the lead single and title track from her forthcoming album, Cry Pretty.
The top five contestants, consisting of Gabby Barrett, Cade Foehner, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Maddie Poppe and Michael J. Woodard, will perform songs from the Carrie Underwood songbook on Sunday’s live show. There will also be a special mentoring session with Underwood during a surprise trip to Nashville. It will be amazing to hear the tips she will give the participants on how to prepare for their singing career.
The blonde singer will also perform her hit single, ‘Cry Pretty,’ which she cowrote and co-produced, and debuted in its first week sales at number one in the U.S. all-genres. Her new album, which will be her first for Capitol Records Nashville will be released on September 14, marking the first time she has coproduced her own album.
We will remember that Carrie Underwood was the winner from the class of 2005 of American Idol. In a flash she became a multi-media superstar, with achievements spanning music, television, and film. She is a seven-time Grammy® Award winner and has sold over 64 million records worldwide and recorded 26 No. 1 singles, 13 of which she co-wrote, with a catalog of songs that have been streamed more than 2.6 billion times worldwide. She has won 12 American Music Awards, 17 CMT Music Awards, ten Billboard Music Awards, six CMA Awards, and is the first female artist to be twice named the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year.
She recently took home her 14th career ACM Award for Vocal Event of the Year for ‘The Fighter,’ a collaboration with Keith Urban, but her accomplishments don’t stop there. She shined in a project that many considered as an impossible feat when, in 2013, Underwood starred as Maria von Trapp in NBC’S three-hour holiday blockbuster, the Emmy®-winning The Sound of Music Live, whose broadcast attracted 44 million viewers.
Her 2015 platinum studio album, Storyteller, produced four No.1 hits. In 2015, she launched and is the lead designer for her fitness and lifestyle brand, CALIA by Carrie Underwood, which is exclusively available at DICK’S Sporting Goods in US and online at www.caliastudio.com.
This year, the singer celebrates ten years as a Grand Ole Opry member and she released the hit event anthem she co-wrote, ‘The Champion’ featuring Ludacris, which opened NBC’S Super Bowl LII and was incorporated into the network’s coverage of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. She is the reason why I’ll be watching.
Charley Pride celebrates 25th anniversary
Country Music Hall of Fame member and Recording Academy ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ recipient Charley Pride celebrated his 25th Anniversary as a Grand Ole Opry member with appearances on the Opry this past weekend.
The ‘Kiss an Angel Good Morning’ singer, who made his Opry debut in 1967, performed extended Opry sets in celebration of his milestone anniversary. Upon his Opry induction 25 years ago, Pride recalled his initial dream of baseball stardom.
‘It’s as if I had made it in baseball and they came up to me and took me to Cooperstown and said, ‘This is where your plaque is going to be – beside Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jackie Robinson, and Hank Aaron’ reports said.
Among other artists scheduled for the
Opry and Opry Country Classics in May are Trace Adkins, Bobby Bare, Terri Clark, Easton Corbin, Jordan Davis, Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers, Craig Morgan, Lorrie Morgan, Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, Marty Stuart, and Brett Young.
Charley Pride also recently announced he’ll be performing at the 2018 CMA Fest, on Friday, June 8 at 8:00 pm at Nissan Stadium. Pride will be sharing the stage that evening with a host of other modern country staples including Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, and Old Dominion.
Collin Raye celebrates a milestone
In celebration of his 25th anniversary as a recording artist, multi-platinum selling country singer Collin Raye will release a new legacy album titled, Collin Raye - 25 Years, 25 Hits, on Tuesday, May 15.
The ACM Award-winning artist has recut 25 of his hit songs, including all 16 No. 1s, along with three bonus tracks, to celebrate his silver anniversary.
‘After working on this album for well over a year, our release date is finally drawing close,’ said Raye in a press release. ‘I’m so proud of this record. For years, people have asked me, ‘Why don’t you have a collection of all of your hits on one record, instead of several greatest hits albums each with different songs?’ Well, now I do — all 25 hits on one album.’
The ten-time ‘Male Vocalist of the Year’ nominee (five CMA and five ACM) recorded the album in Nashville with producer Kelly Schoenfeld.
‘It was a challenge to reproduce and beat what we did years ago, but I’m confident we have,’ he added. ‘This is the definitive CR collection, and basically, the story of my career in making music.’
Raye will celebrate the release at the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday, May 15, where he will perform in the historic circle and sign albums in-store for fans following the show. Album sale orders have been available since May 1, at www.collinraye.com
