Faubourg du Lac-brome project approved
The Brome-missisquoi MRC unanimously passed a resolution (1770518) at its May 16 meeting approving Faubourg Lac-brome, a residential housing project on Lakeside Road in Foster.
The project, initiated by developer Marc Brochu, involves the construction of 47 housing units on 67 hectares of land that once served as a golf club at 710 Lakeside Road (route 243) in Foster. The property is currently owned by the Allard family; Brochu’s intention iås to move forward with the land purchase and the development project as soon as possible.
In addition to the housing units, the plan includes the opening of two new streets and the extension of one existing street. Also built into the project are measures for the protection of some of the land, with 20.8 hectares to be transferred to the Brome Lake Land Foundation, as well as areas designated for parks and public trails, and buffer zones along the water’s edge on the property.
Randy Maclean, who was a member of Emmanuel United Church in Cowansville and the principal at Massey-vanier, a few years back, moved to Humboldt when he left the Townships. He is the vice president of the association running the Humboldt Broncos.
The acts of solidarity in the schools in the ESTB and churches in the area had a special resonance because of Randy’s connection to the Townships.
After the tragedy, quilts were made by members of Emmanuel United Church (who are also members of the Fordyce Women’s Institute). Quilts were also made by other women in our local towns and by Alice Crossfield and Laurie Jenne who run the Fils Amis Quilt Store in East Farnham. In all, nineteen quilts passed through the quilt store en route to families and friends of the hockey team in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. In Humboldt, the Haus of Stitches store was taking care of distribution.
Threads of support connect and shorten the distance between communities. It is to be hoped that these quilts will, in a small way, provide comfort to Humboldt, a town of less than seven thousand people.
