Those who think there is nothing going on in TBL are in for a rude awakening! Tourisme Lac-brome hosted a launch held at Théatre Lac-brome last week highlighting a comprehensive program of summer 2018 activities, all of which are noteworthy and would take the entire newspaper to detail.

Kicking off the season Theatre Lacbrome will be the venue for “Nos Weekends”, a four-day event that will showcase performing artists that live in the area as well as some from abroad. Indoor shows as well as free activities outside the theatre will make of a full weekend of continuous activity. Jeanphilippe Dion, host of the popular Quebec TV program, “La vraie nature”, has accepted the role of spokesperson for this extraordinary event that is a collaborative initiative between Théatre Lac-brome and 5inco en Mouvement and TBL.

From the ever popular Tour de Lac Brome that will be hosting the 40th annual event in June to the Canada Celebrations at the Lion’s Park and then Tour des Arts, Routes des vins, Shakespeare in the Park, the Duck Festival, the Pettes’ Library annual book sale, the antique market at Brome County Historical Society’s grounds, the Knowlton Literary Festival and a stunning line-up of shows at Théatre Lacbrome. Throughout the summer at Coldbrook Park there will be myriad acitivities with something for everyone from the Fêtes Nationale celebrations to Festive Friday concerts and movie night under the stars.

According to Johanne Morin, Director General of TBL Community Services, Recreation, Culture and Tourism, throughout the summer specialized tours will offer visitors a whole new perspective from here. The Three Pines Tour organized by Danielle Viau will trace the places that inspired many of Louise Penny’s best-selleing novels, while The Great British Tea Tarthé immerses its participants into Victorian times.

Special dates have been set for Le Knowlton Tour, walking tour guided by a story teller who will greet you and tell you about the Knowlton village’s heritage that spans both French immigrants and British Loyalists. Participants are sure to revel in Knowlton’s enchanting Victorian architecture and the hidden secrets found within the walls of the Brome County Historical Society’s campus.

With a reputation for so many antique outlets, Toursime Lac-brome reminds everyone about the return of the Antique Shop Circuit.

Weekly activities include the Farmers’ Market every Saturday from June 2nd to October 6 at 48 Maple Street as well as Festive Fridays in Coldbrook Park.

New this year TBL will host a four-day film festival at Théatre Lac-brome. Longtime film critic for the Montreal Gazette, John Griffin says that the organizers are hoping that the format being held within a short time frame will reap lots of interest and success. While plans are still underway the group will be presenting silent films as well as movie music in the reception hall whereas the main movies will be shown in the theatre. There will be something for everyone. Both linguistic communities are being taken into consideration and, as well, there will be something for all age groups. Before each of the long films, there will be a presentation of “shorts” that las about ten minutes. There will also be a presentation with a Quebec filmmaker on Saturday, August 18th. The complete program will be released soon. Passes for the weekend event will cost 50$ or 10$ per evening performances, and 5$ during the day. Matinées for children will be free of charge.

Not mentioned at the launch, the fourth annual Arts Alive festival is happening on the weekend of August 4th. Danny Mcauley says that lots of fun things are planned and is delighted that organizers have received a grant, now four years in a row.

Mayor Richard Burcombe says that “even though other projects are coming to fruition, the pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. We feel that the many efforts invested by all stakeholders over the past few years are paying off. The result: Lac-brome is now positioned as an attractive tourist centre offering something unique, as shown by the rich programming unveiled at the launch. This one has everything to please, no matter the age of our visitors.”
