May was a busy month at the home. Here is short overview of our month. Music with Steve Normandin took place in the nursing care units and main living room on the 3rd. He played several instrument­s including the accordion. A breakfast outing to the Deli-train restaurant in Richmond took place on the 10th. The Sherbrooke Connection group held a meeting and plant exchange in the main living room on the afternoon of the 10th. Robin Goodfellow gave a piano concert in the living room on the afternoon of the 11th. A resident/family meeting was held in the main living room on the evening of the 16th. There was zootherapy on the nursing care units on the morning of the 17th. Boutique Normandin held a clothing sale on the 21st. Our fish pond was stocked on the morning of the 22nd. A spa afternoon was held in the living room on the afternoon of the 24th in celebratio­n of Mother’s Day. The Roxton Singers entertaine­d residents on the evening of the 28th.

This month’s birthday party took place on the 16th and was hosted by the Gore Women’s Institute. Happy birthday to everyone who celebrated.

On the morning of the 18th, Executive Director, Brendalee Piironen, held a special meeting in the main living room of the Wales Home to announce that the Résidence Wales Home and CHSLD Wales Inc. will be receiving its gold designatio­n from Planetree. For more informatio­n on this, the press release in English and French can be found on our website and Facebook page.

This month’s featured event was our annual silent auction, which took place on the afternoon of the 26th of May. In addition to the auction there was a white elephant table, bake sale and tea. Set up for the auction began on the 8th.

Welcome to Jean Davidson who is spending a bit of time with us. Also welcome to Russell Nutbrown, Lorraine Lacroix, Karen Taylor, Thelma Picken, Louisette Pelletier and Marie Scott. Best wishes to Rose Oakley who has returned home. Our sympathies are extended to the family and friends of Betty Moore, Arthur Wood and Fred Toombs.

They are $20 and can be purchased by contacting Rebcca Taylor by phone at 819-826-3266 ext.221 or by e-mail at rtaylor@waleshome.ca or making a purchase at one of the locations listed above. Mailing from the Wales Home is available for an additional cost. We are currently working on the sequel which will be titled “Timeless Memories.”

We have set the date for the Wales Home Foundation’s candleligh­t evening of memories. It will take place on November 2nd at 7 p.m. in the main living room. The funds raised this year will be used to update our library. Pamphlets will be sent to previous contributo­rs in the coming months, but in the meantime should anyone want to purchase candles, they can contact Rebecca Taylor by phone at 819-826-3266 ext.221 or by e-mail at rtaylor@waleshome.ca.

To all the volunteers who assisted us in any way this month, thank you for your dedication and commitment. We are extremely appreciati­ve of all the help that you provide us. Until next month, when we can hopefully report how many fish we’ve caught in the pond at a fishing derby.
