St-denis-de-brompton Firefighters' Shaved Head Challenge: a record for the 10th year

- Record Staff

Last Saturday the St-denis-de-brompton Firefighters' Shaved Head Challenge, presented by PROXIM, took place at the fire station and raised nearly $30,000.

For the occasion, children could visit the fire hall, its trucks, and practice using a fire hose and have fun in the inflatable games. In total, 32 people put themselves under the razor, including most of the firefighters, city councillors, and the Mayor.

This was the 10th edition of the event, which had raised a little over $88,000 in its first nine years. The previous singleedition record was $17,345 raised in 2015.

The donations will allow children like seven-year-old event spokesperson Raphaël Boudreau, to benefit from the best treatment medicine has to offer. The survival rate for childhood cancer has increased from 15 per cent to more than 80 per cent in the last 10 years.

With dozens of shaving sites planned throughout the year across the province, Leucan is on track to reach its provincial target of $4.3 million.

Those who wish to register for one of the region's shaving sites or to create a personalized Challenge that will allow participants to choose the date, time, location and scope of the Challenge, should visit tetesrasees.com. The next Challenges in Estrie will take place in Magog, Cowansville and Lac Mégantic.

The Leucan Shaved Head Challenge is a fundraising activity that mobilizes the community in a spirit of solidarity to provide services to families of children with cancer. It is also a gesture of support for children who undergo, a change in their body image through hair loss during chemotherapy.
