Second regional adult health survey underway

- Record Staff

The Estrie Public Health Department has announced a second survey on the health of adults living in the region served by the CIUSSS of Estrie CHUS: This research will target 10,650 respondents aged 18 and over, surveyed randomly in French or English, by telephone or internet between now and mid-september. By improving the knowledge of decision makers, the survey should help inform them in determining health policy.

The survey will focus on ten major themes:

• Lyme disease (risk activities, protective measures, etc.).

• Alcohol and cannabis consumption.

• Access to health services (emergency room visits, difficulty getting care).

• School and overall development of

children (homework assistance, perceived importance of a diploma, reading activities and fine motor skills).

• Screen time.

• Life habits and preventive activities (smoking, nutrition, vaccination, etc.).

• Chronic health problems (hypertension, mood disorders, etc.).

• Reactions to daily life (stress and psychological distress).

• Sleep and stress management.

• Sense of belonging to the community.

• Participation in active life (social support, social involvement).

• Wellness at work (health and wellness program).

• Recovery from the Lac-mégantic Railway Tragedy.

Thanks to the work of some thirty researchers and co-researchers from the region, the survey will make it possible to describe the extent of a number of health-related phenomena at the regional and local levels. Some data may even be compared to that obtained in the first edition of 2014-2015. Initial results should be released in early 2019.

Public Health would like to remind the public of the importance of participating in this confidential health survey so that the conclusions reached are as valid as possible. The firm Advanis Jolicoeur has been selected to conduct the survey.
