- Record Staff

This year, Centraide Estrie will distribute $ 1,257,013 to 68 different organizations, 11 consultative bodies and 8 community service programs in the Estrie region. The support will benefit more than 62,000 people in difficulty in the area.

According to Marie-hélène Wolfe, Centraide’s new Executive Director, this year’s funding is slightly higher than the amount raised with last year’s campaign, but there is still more work to be done.

"Not only are needs not diminishing, but the demographic context and the many other campaigns, combined with growing socio-funding, make fundraising more difficult," commented Wolfe. .

The increase in allocations to community-based organizations and programs funded in the seven Mrcs in the region is made possible by the increased results achieved during the 2017 campaign.

According to Yves Jodin, Chairman of

the Board of Directors, Centraide Estrie makes sure it is as close as possible to its contributors, volunteers and organizations, in order to continue its mission in the four fields of action where it operates.

The funding awarded to the 68 organizations was announced last week.

The improvement of people's economic conditions, a major sector of Centraide Estrie involving 13 organizations (including 9 collective kitchens), is allocated $ 201,884, or 18.25 per cent of the funding.

The goal of helping troubled youth and their success is also an important area. The network of 15 youth centers will share $ 160,456, or 14.50 per cent of the funds allocated.

Another 41 organizations work with disadvantaged and vulnerable clients, such as those related to the status of women (10), volunteerism (7), mental health (6), family and childhood (9), as well as the disabled (9). They will receive a total amount of $ 528,859. These sectors represent 47.81 per cent of this year’s funding.

Centraide Estrie will also provide financial assistance to its "Community Builders" program, which supports 11 consultative bodies present in the 7 MRCS of Estrie, by granting $ 216,007, which (19.44 per centof the budget).

Other programs include the FTQ'S Social Delegates, whose role is to help workers who are struggling with a personal or family problem such as debt, violence or alcoholism, to help manage their issues.

In addition, the CSN'S Caregivers program offers a workplace support network to support people experiencing personal difficulties by referring them to community resources.

Finally, there are the Clinical Tax Programs, Emergency Energy, Operation September and Student Retention Scholarships.

Centraide Estrie, through its daily commitment, contributes to the community by fighting against prejudice and social exclusion, by partnering initiatives to improve the living conditions of the poor and vulnerable.

Most recently, the results of the NISKA study (June 2018) on the social impacts of Centraide Estrie, clearly demonstrated the raison d'être of the organization and the essential role it has played for 43 years now, by contributing to give confidence to the entire Estrie population.

More than ever, Centraide Estrie can affirm and demonstrate that: "Together we multiply the possibilities here in the Estrie region".
