Stanstead County Women’s Institute June meeting

The Stanstead County W.I. met on June 7, 2018 at Beulah United Church for their spring meeting. Dyanne Saanum welcomed the ten members present. The Mary Steward Collect and the Salute to the Flag were recited by the members present.

Phyllis Dustin read the minutes of the last county meeting which were accepted correct as read. Business out of the minutes - Dyanne and Barbara will organize a workday to work on tearoom items.

Phyllis Dustin, county Treasurer, read the Treasurer’s report which was accepted as read.

A thank you has been received since the last meeting for the county’s donation to the Breakfast program at the Ayer’s Cliff Elementary School.

The county convenors gave brief reports:

The Education & Personal Developmen­t report was given by Irene Humphrey. She spoke about a book “In Praise of Blood” written by Judi Rever, a Canadian reporter who grew up in the area. Judi risked her own life to tell the world about the disturbing history of the Rwandan genocide.

Phyllis Dustin, County Agricultur­e Convenor, read an article from “The Advocate,” the QFA newspaper, about a local student, Martha Mackinnon, who has graduated from Macdonald Campus, Mcgill University. She is the 4th generation of Mackinnons to be Macdonald alumnus.

Rev Doreen Moffat, County Health and Community Living Convenor, read an article from the Stanstead Journal “75 Years Ago” which stated that the Stanstead County W.I. met for their meeting at the home of Mrs. Clarence Davis in Way’s Mills.

New Business was the report written by Elaine Stone of the QWI Convention, which was attended by Elaine Stone and Dyanne Saanum. The County will be ordering a QWI banner and QWI table flags from the provincial office.

Following the meeting the ladies had barbecue chicken from Rotisserie Orford. Scotty Miller and Elvera Patterson served a delicious dessert and served the tea. The Hatley-stanstead W.I. monthly meeting followed the meal.
