Wales Home News June 2018

-

June was another great month at the home. Outside, our surroundings are beautiful in the gardens, with baby ducks on the pond and with baby goats and alpacas in the enclosure at the back of the building for everyone’s viewing pleasure.

This month Friday teas resumed after a hiatus due to our annual silent auction that took place in May. Amazing music by Adrien and Joe was heard in the main living room on the afternoon of the 7th. The Fidelys choir performed in the living room on the afternoon of the 9th, providing a beautiful show. Music with Eric Manolson and Michael Grayson took place on the nursing care units on the morning of the 12th and in the living room in the afternoon. Sherbrooke Connection held a gathering in the living room on the afternoon of the 14th. Isabelle Gosselin and her piano and violin students gave a beautiful concert in the living room on the evening of the 14th.

A Father’s Day fishing derby, the first of the season, took place on the morning of the 16th and was followed by a special meal for the men in the main living room. Around 40 fish were caught. This was a HUGE event which could not have happened without the many volunteers. Thank you so very much to everyone who helped out.

Boutique Diane held a clothing sale on the 18th in the living room.

The June birthday party was held on the 20th on the 4th floor. Happy birthday to everyone who celebrated, and thank you to our hosts the Wales Home Volunteers and Friends. On the 22nd, zootherapy took place on the nursing care units and included an assortment of furry and feathered friends. On the afternoon of the 22nd Lou Simons gave a lovely piano concert in the main living room. The Roxton Singers gave their monthly performance on the evening of the 25th. Jill and Bill gave a musical performance in the living room on the afternoon of the 26th. The Wales Home, CHSLD Wales Inc. and Wales Home Foundation’s annual general meeting took place on the afternoon of the 28th. A Canada Day barbecue was enjoyed on the 30th and was followed by musical entertainment.

In addition to the highlights listed above, the month also had its regular activities including exercise class, bingos, carpet bowling, Bible study, church services and yoga. Aquafitness has become a weekly event in our therapeutic pool.

Welcome to Harry Manning, Pauline Daigneault, Jeanne Parenteau and Eric Allan. Our sympathies are extended to the family and friends of Mildred Holliday and Joseph Enright. Mildred’s family hosted her funeral service in the main living room on the afternoon of the 16th.
