1200 visitors for Merry House grand opening

- Record Staff

More than 1,200 people showed up Sunday to celebrate the grand opening of Magog’s Merry House. In a joyful atmosphere, visitors came to visit the exhibitions and see the new interior and exterior of the house.

Despite the gloomy weather, visitors lined up, waiting for the doors to open. The first person to cross the threshold, Juanita Mckelvey, was given the honor of cutting the red ribbon, marking the important milestone.

Afterwards, visitors wandered through the various showrooms, discovering the restored, renovated, and newly constructed interior of the iconic House. The day was also enhanced by the presence of the last private owners of the House, the Fields family, for a VIP visit.

"We are extremely happy to finally be able to share our beautiful Merry House with the general public,” said Merry House Executive Director Sophie Charbonneau. “We worked hard to get here and the result is well worth the effort!"

At the end of the day, a concert and a drink were offered to the approximately 200 visitors still on site. The Rémi Cormier Quartet offered a nice jazz performance under the tent. A special thanks to Orford Music and Jean and Jocelyne Monty for their support and collaboration.
