Canadian Heritage Minister meets Young Leaders and Actions Inteculturelles Team
While Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism Minister Pablo Rodriguez was in town on Monday, he paid a visit to the Actions Interculturelles team and the young leaders of the Dialogue Plus Project. During the visit, Rodriguez was introduced to the various initiatives put in place by the project’s young leaders to foster intercultural dialogue.
The Young Leaders, accompanied by the co-chairs of Dialogue Plus, Annie Godbout and David Morin, presented the objectives of the project and the actions they put in place to promote inclusion and prevent radicalization. The committee was represented by Camille Leblanc, Jovana Mojovic, Isaïa Neeson, and Fatéma-zahrae Lekhel, who explained how young people get involved on a daily basis in order to highlight similarities and the things that unite people, regardless of the community of origin. During the discussions, the Co-chairs noted that it is important to continue to foster opportunities for dialogue in order to create win-win conditions for harmonious living together and break down barriers and encourage the welcoming and integration of young people in their community.
The "Dialogue Plus" project proposes a series of public actions to stimulate good ethno-cultural relations and encourage greater mobilization of young people, whether they are Canadians of origin or from different ethno-cultural communities.
The activities are supported by a multi-purpose advisory committee that brings together young people, stakeholders from various backgrounds, and experts, as well as the Dialogue Plus project team.
Their mission is made up of three main components: the conduct of a pancanadian survey to assess Canadians' perceptions of discrimination and radicalization, the creation of a Youth in Action Committee, and the holding of public forums on intercultural dialogue in Quebec City, Ottawa, Hamilton, and Moncton.
