Juno Award nominee Jill Barber comes to Theatre Lac Brome

- The Scoop Mable Hastings

On September 29 at 8:00 p.m. Theatre Lac Brome will welcome multi Juno nominated performer, Jill Barber whose recently released album, Metaphora boldly bursts into the world of contemporary pop music. Drawing inspiration from a variety of influences and with a voice that is distinctive and recognizable, this is an artist that makes one proud to be a Canadian. With her new album, Barber showcases her power and vulnerability as both a woman and an artist attesting to her evolution in music and her versatility crossing over from genre to genre. Barber does not allow her to be defined and in fact likes to keep the audience entertained with her ability to tell a story through her music in a variety of ways.

A sampling of her latest album finds an assurance of understanding in a woman’s journey away from and back to herself; empowering the listener and at times giving an unapologetic nudge to get on your feet and dance. This musical offering clears up all doubt; Barber intends to leave her mark and state her claim as a contender in the ring of artist recognition.

Partnered with lyricist Ryan Guldemond who co-wrote four of the nine songs on Metaphora, Barber feels that he helped her to push her creative boundaries. Renowned for writing songs with a message, in this album Barber digs deep.

“I had more that I needed to say,” explained Barber and Guldemond helped her to do just that with each song boldly driving home the words and leaving a resonating beat in ones memory.

Metaphora is a continuation of her journey from folk to jazz, R & B to pop… The show will attest to Barber’s versatility and her bold approach to her music and her transformation within the realms of her artistry.

The talented songstress will not disappoint and you will likely find yourself a fan shortly after her performance begins.

With the luxury of the internet, it is easy to type her name into your search engine and there you will find a sampling of her music. Her striking appearance, her versatile style and her immense talent combine and this is nothing short of a gift to all. Jill Barber will appear in Knowlton at Theatre Lac Brome and the Metaphora tour is the perfect introduction to what is sure to become a longstanding artist to follow as the evolution and growth continues.
