Stanstead County Women’s Institute County meeting

-

The Stanstead County W.I. held a meeting on August 9, 2018 in Beebe with 8 members present. Dyanne Saanum, county president, opened the meeting with the Mary Stewart Collect and the Salute to the Flag. Debbie Smith welcomed everyone to the Advent Church hall for this meeting.

Minutes from the June 7 meeting were read by Phyllis Dustin. Phyllis, county treasurer, also read the Treasurer’s Report. Both reports were accepted.

Cards were read from Debbie Smith for the birthday wishes she received on her birthday and a card of thanks from Winnie Wright after the death of her son.

The county has ordered a QWI banner and several small flags which will be used in the tea room at the Exposition Ayer’s Cliff. Fabric for the tea room has been bought and a work day will take place to make the curtains. Plans were made for the County Tea room during the fair.

The ladies welcome any help from young or old during the fair. If you are interested in giving up an hour or two please contact Dyanne Saanum or Barbara Hewitt. They would love to have you join them.

Debbie Smith asked to be relieved of her position of County Secretary. A motion was made to have Phyllis Dustin become the Secretary/treasurer for the county. Debbie was thanked for her time as county secretary. Debbie will continue as chair of the scholarship committee. The county offers scholarships to graduating students of Stanstead County and information may be obtained through Alexander Galt High School.

Trish Mcnabb is interested in doing a write-up on the Stanstead County W.I. She will be meeting with members in the near future.

A motion was made to send a donation to the Sherbrooke Salvation Army to help fill the free vending machines they have for the homeless.

The county is sponsoring a special prize for decorated cookies in the horticultural building at the fair and also prizes for children in the Children’s Department of the Ladies Department.

County convenors gave their reports.

Being no other business, meeting was closed and the members sat down to a delicious lunch served by the Ayer’s Cliff Branch. Scotty Miller thanked the branch for preparing and serving the luncheon.
