Mounties Momentum too Much for Gaiters
Astrong start to the second half sparked a turnaround for the Gaiters. Stephen Casey's (Boucherville, Que./champlain College St-lambert) 32 –yard touchdown pass to Roberto Jimenez- Bojocquez put Bishop's up 8-7, but the Gaiters could not hold on to the momentum for long, as the Mount Allison Mounties took the contest 36-22 in Sackville, N.B.
How it Happened:
Bishop's opened the scoring with a rouge from a punt by Arnaud Dandin (Paris, France/cégep de Thetford) to put them up 1-0 after the first quarter. In the second rookie kicker Noah Laursen (Calgary, Alta./bishop Carroll H.S.) also got a single for the Gaiters. Mount Allison responded and led 7-2 at the halftime break. In the third quarter, Stephen Casey (Boucherville, Que./champlain College St-lambert) found Roberto Jimenez- Bojocquez for the Gaiters first touchdown of the 2018 season. The Mounties took back the lead 14-8 to close out the third. The final quarter had both squads light up the scoreboard. Mount Allison's m. Richard ran the ball in for 30-yards to start off the fourth frame. Bishop's returned the favour as Mathieu Demers (Lévis, Que./cégep Limoilou) found Dashaun Smellie (Mississauga, Ont./champlain-lennoxville) in the end zone with 9:19 to play. The Gaiters were in reach, down 22-15. The Mounties closed out the game with an interception for a 52-yard return for the touchdown. Bishop's had one last push but the difference was too much for a comeback. The Mounties won 36-22.
