Back to school for the 2018-2019 school year

- Submitted by the Eastern Townships School Board

Today, Wednesday, August 29, 2018 is back to school for students in the elementary and secondary levels at the Eastern Townships School Board (ETSB).

Personnel in schools and centres will be greeting over 5390 students at the elementary and secondary levels, in addition to over 1000 in the adult education and vocational training sectors. The ETSB is pleased to announce that this represents an increase of close to 100 students in the youth sector and is the fifth year in a row that their population has increased.

School personnel have been busy preparing for the new school year and are ready to welcome the students back. As is the tradition with the ETSB, members from senior management are visiting each and every school, taking the time to welcome teachers, support staff, professionals, bus drivers and administrators back to work.

In keeping with its commitment to provide a quality-learning environment that is also welcoming, the ETSB will invest over $13 million in its infrastructure. Projects include maintenance, remodeling and refurbishing of buildings and grounds as well as upgrades and additions to playgrounds and green spaces.

The school board has also added two new electric buses to its fleet this year, bringing the total to three, operating in the Estrie and Richmond areas.

In 2016, the ETSB was the first school board in the Estrie region to own and operate an electric school bus.

Our four Adult Education and Vocational Training Centres will help over 1000 students throughout the year to achieve their goals. Be it finishing high school, getting a certificate, or changing careers and taking on a new challenge, the personnel in our centres are professionals trained and dedicated to guiding our adult students so that they can reach their potential.

Our International Students Program will be welcoming close to 80 students from across the globe into schools, centres and communities this year. These youth are hosted by families who provide them with a secure and stimulating environment, for a few months or a complete school year. If you live on the ETSB’S territory and you would like to meet people from other countries

and share your culture with them, contact ETSB Homestay Coordinator Marie-michèle Dorais (isp.homestay@etsb.qc.ca)

We are currently recruiting new Francophone, Anglophone or bilingual host families.

The Eastern Townships School Board provides educational services for students in the Estrie and Montérégie areas with 20 elementary schools, three high schools, two adult education centres, two vocational training centres, a distance education and an international student program. We offer students the advantage of studying in a bilingual environment, led by caring adults and supported with a comprehensive technology initiative that is student focused.
