When Bruno met Steve: Sherbrooke councilor turned CAQ candidate sits down with the mayor
Bruno Vachon, candidate for the Coalition Avenir Quebec in Sherbrooke and former Sherbrooke City Councillor returned to City Hall on Thursday afternoon for a meeting with Mayor Steve Lussier about the issues currently facing the city.
“We talked about a little bit of everything,” said Vachon, following the meeting, “It was a very busy hour.”
Although the CAQ candidate was in municipal office himself until last November, he said that he wanted to get the pulse of the current administration before making any commitments to the development of the city.
“It was important for me, before making engagements, to ensure that we were on the same page,” Vachon said, adding that although he and most of the rest of former Mayor Bernard Sévigny’s Renouveau Sherbrookois party lost their seats in the last municipal election, he holds no ill will toward the current mayor or council.
“We are professionals and we both care about the development and prosperity of Sherbrooke,” the former councilor said. “I think we have moved on.”
With reference to what was discussed during the meeting, Vachon said that topics ranged from the workforce to the environment to intergovernmental relations. He said that Lussier came with a clear list of concerns that he wanted to raise and expressed confidence that he would be able to present satisfying commitments within the coming weeks.
“These will not be the projects of Bruno Vachon, but of the whole Sherbrooke community,” the candidate said, adding that he intends to work for all the people of Sherbrooke, even if his riding only covers part of its territory.
