A new beginning for the LDWC

-

The Lennoxville & District Women’s Centre Team is working in and around boxes these days. While summer invited long, leisurely dips in the lake, we were sorting, and struggling with decisions of what stays and what goes. No one is exempt from the logistical nightmare that is moving, so let’s not dwell on the difficulties. As Executive Director, Terry Moore said when referring to our upcoming relocation, “Moving’s never fun, but the possibility of a fresh start, re-organizing our space and re-evaluating our priorities is very exciting”. Moore is also looking forward to being back in the centre of town, within walking distance of the LDWC’S weekly activities at the Amedée Beaudoin Community Centre, “Being within walking distance of our members is great! We look forward to seeing them more often.”

Of course, we will miss our neighbours here at the Marguerite Knapp building. Working among such dedicated community-minded partners has been a true blessing these past several years. We have had to come to terms with the fact that our access to information and resources may take little bit more leg work than a walk down the hall, but we are up to the challenge. We are also in a privileged position to gain access to a number of various resources through our new neighbours at the office of the Honorable Marie-claude Bibeau.

Our plan is simple (in writing at least): The LDWC will be closing its doors at the Marguerite Knapp building as of 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 4. The office will be closed from October 8 until the 14th while we settle in and make ourselves presentable. On Monday, October 15th, we look forward to welcoming visitors at our new office at 175 Queen Street, suite 203. We are planning to have an official Open House to introduce our community to the new space sometime in November, so keep an eye out for invitations to come.

Finally, we want to thank our community partners / neighbours / friends at the Marguerite Knapp building for making our time here so memorable and positive. We will truly miss seeing you every day. To the ETSB, your support has been so appreciated. Thank you for accommodating us with such generosity. To our members and volunteers, we are so grateful for your involvement in making the LDWC what it was at 257 Queen, and we hope to see even more of at our new home this Fall.
