Hat­ley-stanstead Women’s In­sti­tute Septem­ber meet­ing

The Hat­ley-stanstead W.I. met on Septem­ber 13 at the cot­tage of Bar­bara He­witt on Lake Mas­saw­ippi. Thanks Bar­bara for invit­ing us and to Mother Na­ture for the beau­ti­ful weather.

Af­ter a potluck lun­cheon of cold cuts and sal­ads the mem­bers sat down to their meet­ing. A spe­cial thanks to Bar­bara’s friend Mar­i­lyn for help­ing and join­ing us for the meal. Mar­i­lyn also gra­ciously helped the ladies in the Tea Room at the Ayer’s Cliff Fair on the Satur­day.

Seven mem­bers an­swered the Roll Call which was “Bring in your favourite ap­ple recipe.”

Elaine Stone read the Sec­re­tary’s re­port for the June meet­ing and Phyl­lis Dustin gave the Trea­surer’s Re­port.

A spe­cial thanks to all who came and sup­ported the W.I. in the Tea Room at the Ayer’s Cliff Fair.

A think­ing of you card was sent to Janet Mclel­lan.

A do­na­tion will be sent to help sup­port the Ayer’s Cliff El­e­men­tary School Break­fast Pro­gram.

Mem­bers will once again be tak­ing or­ders for the Vessey Bulb Fundraiser.

Bar­bara showed the mem­bers the crafts which were in the Cer­cles des Fer­mieres/women’s In­sti­tutes com­pe­ti­tion at the fair. The Hat­ley-stanstead branch were happy to bring home the first prize rib­bon.

Con­venors gave their re­ports: Con­cerns over the di­ary poli­cies, Lake­side Dump go­ing into Lake Mem­phrem­a­gog, and the re­moval of the hill in Ayer’s Cliff to ex­pand Wulftec were ex­pressed. An ex­cel­lent write-up was pub­lished in a re­cent Record con­cern­ing ATVS and brain in­jury. No train­ing is nec­es­sary be­fore us­ing an ATV.

Mem­bers brought in their plants they started from seeds in June. They were judged and Phyl­lis Dustin went home with the red rib­bon.

The next meet­ing will be held at Beu­lah United Church on Oc­to­ber 17 fol­lowed by the Stanstead County Fall meet­ing.
