Canadian Club remembers Nov. 11, 1918

-

The next meeting of the Canadian Club of the Yamaska Valley will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018, 2:00pm, at the Auberge West Brome, 128 Route 139. Ms Caitlin Bailey, Executive Director/curator of the Canadian Centre for the Great War, will present “The Business of War: Canadian Companies During World War I”. War is, of course, tragic - but war also affects the economic status of those countries involved. Ms Bailey will discuss the participation of various Canadian enterprises supplying clothing, nourishment, armaments to the war effort, with emphasis on specific Township businesses. As November 2018 is the 100th anniversary of the November 1918 Armistice, Caitlin will also add a few comments on lasting effect of the Great War on both Canada and the Townships. This Centre is a result of a donation of over 5000 military objects and 5000 documents, amassed over 25 years by a private collector. The focus is on the social history of the First World War in Canada by offering travelling exhibitions, online content and school workshop programs. It is located on St-patrick Street in Montréal, is open to the public and offers group tours. After the presentation there will be a Q & A. period followed by a coffee/tea social time; a chance to chat with the speaker and other attendees. To enjoy lunch at the Auberge reservations are required. Please contact 450-266-7552 or 1888-902-7663. Canadian Club information available at 450-243-6524. $10.00 fee for non-club members (Memberships still available.)
