Sherbrooke Hussars conduct exercise in Compton

The Sherbrooke Hussars held exercises over the weekend that included an armed escort of dignitarie­s on Nov. 25. Nov. 23 and 24 were devoted to the preparatio­n of the convoy.

The exercise was the third conducted this fall in the region and was the most detailed and advanced.

The exercise featured road reconnaiss­ance all morning of Nov. 24, followed by reaction practices while under fire in the afternoon.

Finally on Nov. 25 there was the VIP convoy, which left the Nadeau Bench Quarry, north of Compton, to arrive at the Sherbrooke Airport.

The Sherbrooke Hussars used three tactical armored patrol vehicles (VBTP) as well as four light vehicles to protect the personalit­ies throughout the convoy. Fifty members of the Hussars accompanie­d notable s over the length of the 45 kilometer journey, which included Steve Lussier Mayor of Sherbrooke, Sylvie Lapointe, Mayor of Cookshire, Bernard Vanasse, Mayor of Compton, Pierre-luc Dusseault, Member of Parliament for Sherbooke, Michel Mercier, Cookshire Municipal Councilor, Philippe De Courval, Compton Town Manager, and

honorary colonels of The Sherbrooke Hussars David Rothschild and François Sylvestre.

Soldiers who participat­ed in the exercise work part time for our regiment and have either civilian jobs or are in school. A large proportion of our members are students at the CEGEP de Sherbrooke and the Université de Sherbrooke and are offered part-time work during the fall and winter and full-time during the summer.
