Lampe-phelps Helps Awards
Lampe-phelps Helps awards are given to three local students each year who are planning their postsecondary education. The Lampe Foundation is an affiliate of CFUW Sherbrooke & District who teamed up with Phelps Helps to begin this initiative in 2017. To be eligible for this award, students must have participated in Phelps Helps programs, be enrolled or applied to postsecondary education, and demonstrate community engagement and leadership in their application.
On December 5th, Hannah Wallace, our second postsecondary winner, accepted her award. In her application, Hannah described how she has taken part in Phelps Helps since the first year, back in 2012 when Hannah was only in level two. Hannah described how Phelps was an important success factor that helped her graduate high school stating: “The tutors and staff at Phelps made me feel comfortable asking for help and were a constant encouragement”.
Hannah graduated from Alexander Galt in 2017 and has stayed closely connected to Phelps through our Compass Program (previously known as the Graduate Support Program). Currently, Hannah is enrolled at the Lennoxville Vocational Training Centre studying to be an administrative assistant. We are very proud of Hannah and all of her accomplishments, and pleased to award her the 2018 Lampe-phelps Helps postsecondary award.
Watch closely in the month of May for our next round of applications, this time for high school students looking to continue into postsecondary education.
Phelps was founded in 2012 and has grown organically from a single high school tutoring program to nine unique programs, providing the Stanstead area with free educational and career support.
