Estria Woodwind Quintet offers a romantic program

On the occasion of the feast of St. Valentine, the Estria Concerts series is proposing two presentati­ons of its romantic production entitled, “À tour d’anches”.

Saturday Feb, 16 at 3 p.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church in North Hatley (3115 Capelton Road) and Sunday Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. at the Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre in Sherbrooke (9 Speid Street), the clarinetis­t Pauline Farrugia will perform a concert with her husband, oboist Étienne de Médicis, and the talented pianist Tristan Longval-gagné.

The program will include romantic and nostalgic works such as the Three Romances by Robert Schumann, The Shepherd on the Rock by Franz Schubert, The clarinet sonata by Francis Poulenc, The Three Preludes by George Gershwin, a Morceau de salon by Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda and a magnificen­t Adagio for oboe by Johann Sebastian Bach. And for an additional romantic touch, the clarinetis­t will also be performing two works on the saxophone : a sonata by George Friedrick Handel and the romantic Aria for saxophone by Eugène Bozza.

The cost of admission to the concerts is $15 for general admission and $10 for students and 60+. The public may reserve at 819-842-1072 or at estria@cgocable.ca. Please note that reservatio­ns are mandatory for the concert at Uplands as space is extremely limited.
