Violin and guitar featured in Plymouth-trinity concert

Guitar and violin make for a duet of delightful sounds offered by two artists of compelling talent. Laurence Kayaleh is a violinist returns with a new collaborat­or, Michael Kolk, on guitar. These renowned artists will present a program of choice for la Maison d'opéra et de Concerts de Sherbrooke on Feb. 10, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Plymouth-trinity United Church in Sherbrooke. The musical conversati­on between these two internatio­nally acclaimed concert soloists will allow the audience to experience, in an intimate setting, all the richness of their expressive­ness and musicality in Paganini and de Falla,.

Laurence Kayaleh has given recitals on the great stages of the world as a guest soloist and her track record is filled with collaborat­ions with symphony orchestras of many cities, such as Bern, Basel, Zurich, Modena, Bologna, Brussels, Moscow, Prague, Sofia , Washington, Paris, Montreal, Caracas, and others, where she has worked with renowned conductors. She has recorded, for NAXOS, the complete works for violin and piano by N. Medtner, A. Honegger, and G. Catoire. Invited to internatio­nal festivals, she gives master classes just and sits as a juror for internatio­nal competitio­ns. She is back for a second concert in Sherbrooke this season.: Pierre Petit, a critic for Le Figaro, describes her as "L'archet Royal" ("Royal Bow"), in reference to the golden tone she creates with her instrument. She plays on a Pietro Guarneri violin, built by the Venetian master 1742.

During his career, Michael Kolk has establishe­d himself as one of the most accomplish­ed classical guitarists in Canada. He has performed in North America and in Europe and his discograph­y includes six recordings for the record labels Naxos, Alma Records, and Deosonic Music, which are regularly featured on Canadian and American radio channels. He has collaborat­ed with classical and popular musicians, and made his debut as a guest soloist with the Toronto Philharmon­ia.

He has performed with the Canadian Opera Company, Opera in Concert, Tapestry Opera and Cineconcer­ts and has won numerous awards in dedicated guitar competitio­ns. He holds an ARCT Diploma in Performanc­e from the Royal Conservato­ry and a Master's Degree in Interpreta­tion from the University of Toronto. Liona Boyd praised him as "one of the most brilliant and expressive classical guitarists I've ever heard in my life".

Tickets for the concert are on sale at the door, Plymouth-trinity United Church, 380 Dufferin St. Sherbrooke, General Admission: $35, $15 for those 25 years and under and $30 for those 65 and over: Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
