Bombardier donates $500,000 for student entrepreneurship at U de S
Upon completing their bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke, Rosemarie St-yves-ferron and her colleagues from the Cigogne team had the idea of developing technology to facilitate the transportation of medicines in developing countries. In order to make their project a reality, the graduates participated in the Createk Competition, which allowed them to benefit from support that helped them to transform their invention into a business project.
Propelling this kind of entrepreneurial potential in U de S students is exactly what the $500,000 contribution from the JR André Bombardier Family, announced this past Friday, is for. The announcement was made at the launch of the 2019 edition of the Createk Competition at the Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation (3IT). This donation will support the Createk Competition and create a new scholarship fund for students who engage in technological entrepreneurship projects as part of an internship at the undergraduate level or a master's degree.
"This grant is an important milestone in terms of entrepreneurship at Udes, already renowned for its many ways of preparing for the next generation in order to meet the needs of young people in the community,” said Professor Vincent Aimez, Vice-president of Monetization and Partnerships. “It is thanks to the support of partners, including the J.R. André Bombardier Family, that the University contributes to the development of our society. On behalf of the Fondation de l'université de Sherbrooke, we thank you for stimulating the ingenuity of our student community."
