“Nuit du pont couvert” micro-festival coming to Gould this weekend

-

The “nuit du pont couvert” is an annual 24-hour micro-festival held each year on and around the Mcvetty-mckenzie covered bridge in Gould. This year’s edition, which is coming up this Saturday and Sunday , August 24 and 25, offers a program filled with original live performances by musicians both known and unknown in the region.

A not-to-be-missed all-nighter, the nuit du pont couvert gets started at 1 p.m. on Saturday and continues straight through to Sunday at 1 pm. The event is organized by the Oscar-dhu Cultural Center in Gould and this year features artists like Chernich-nicholas, Poulin, Coyote Bill, Whydah, We Are Wolves, and Hugo Mudie & The White Golden. The event will also include a literary cabaret and other whimsical activities.

The public will have the chance to witness the energetic musical performance of these artists meticulously chosen by the organization to produce the electrifying energy that has come to be characteristic of this gathering. After the show, those who are still up will be able to dance to the beats of “DJ Rock le pont”, a surprise guest. At the cocktail hour, the group Benoit Paradis trio will open the ball, followed by the pianist Mimi Blais, queen of ragtime, to accompany the sunset, cocktail in hand.

Several activities await festival-goers during the afternoon: creation of mosaics, percussion workshop at the edge of the water, pebble painting activity, wrestling of words andfree swimming in the river. All will be able to enjoy the beers of the 11 Comtés microbrewery in Cookshire and the local food of Haut Saint-françois prepared by le Cuisinier Déchaîné.

Located in Gould, 35 minutes from Sherbrooke, The nuit du pont couvert is proud to organize an eco-friendly event that aims to have zero waste and strongly encourages carpooling. The public is invited to camp for free on the site with tents and small RVS.

Tickets for the event are $40 and grant access to the full covered bridge site. They can be purchased online at lanuitdupontcouvert.com or at the Morin general store, La ruée vers Gould, the Brasserie 11 comtés and the Salon Barbart in Sherbrooke. Tickets purchased on site will be more expensive. Site access is free for anyone 15 or younger.
