Tales from Brome Fair
Bluegrass music early on Saturday morning Sylvie Wheeler a returning vendor year after year
Tyler Comeau and Highway 10’, performed on the small stage from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. Tyler, the youngest member of the group, still a teenager, was up for a little ribbing from his grandfather, also a member of the group. In between playing their traditional bluegrass style of music, the audience was informed that Tyler was the last one to wake up that morning. He hadn’t had much sleep the night before!
But you could not tell that he, or anyone else in the band, were tired at all. For so early in the morning, the band had a great sound and the audience roundly applauded after each of their numbers. Anytime they perform, there will be an appreciative audience waiting.
Right: Tyler Comeau and Highway 10 performed before an enthusiastic audience on Saturday morning at Brome Fair.
Sylvie can describe in detail, the vending space she had in the old handicraft building that was beside the horticulture building. She has been part of Brome Fair for decades. Now she is under the Grandstand in one of the first stalls. She likes being near the natural light. She remembers a few times the power has gone out, and then it is really good to be near a light source.
She is an avid knitter and handicrafter. She does many shows and she says that doing all her crafts keeps her out of trouble. She wants to do well at Brome Fair but she doesn’t want to sell out or else she won’t be able to sleep much as she is committed to many more sales before Christmas. There is a fine balance between selling for a profit but having enough material for the next sale.
