Labrie launches second call for projects, invites youth participation
Sherbrooke MNA Christine Labrie is launching a second call for projects for the Fonds d'investissement citoyen.
The vote will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the amphitheatre of the Montcalm School, located at 2050 Portland Boulevard.
All residents of the riding of Sherbrooke will be invited to discover the projects submitted and vote for their five favourite projects.
Some adjustments have been made since the first round of the distribution of funds. The second edition will see the addition of the vote of young people, who will be able to support a project they would like to see realized in their community.
"I think it's important for young people to have a say in what's going on in their communities. Introducing them to democracy early increases their chances of becoming engaged citizens. So we decided to create the ‘coup de coeur des jeunes’. It's simple: young people between the ages of 5 and 17 whose parents appear on the list of electors for the electoral division of Sherbrooke will receive a special ballot on which they can enter their Coup de coeur project. The project chosen by the largest number of young people will be supported, in addition to

those chosen by the regular vote," explained Christine Labrie, adding that all Sherbrooke citizens are invited to come and vote on Oct. 26.
Organizations interested in submitting a project can complete the registration form on the MNA'S website at https://christinelabrie.quebec/fonds-investissement-citoyen/
The Citizen Investment Fund aims to support community initiatives to enrich Sherbrooke's community life, to provide more transparency in the allocation of the MNA’S discretionary fund and to encourage citizen involvement in the choice of projects. This time, an amount of $25,000 is being made available to residents to encourage projects of their choice.
The submission criteria are as follows:
- The project proposal must be supported by a non-profit organization whose address is located in the territory of the City of Sherbrooke.
- The project proposal must demonstrate that its implementation will have concrete effects for the citizens of Sherbrooke and the riding.
- The amount requested must be between $500 and $3000.
- The project cannot be an event or fundraising activity.
Deadline for submission of projects: Monday, Oct. 7, 2019 at 4 p.m.
Announcement of the official list of eligible projects will be made in mid-october.
Presentation of projects by the organizations will be held on Oct. 26, from 1-4 p.m., at the Montcalm School amphitheatre, located at 2050 Portland Boulevard.
The voting period will be on Oct. 26 at the project presentations, and Oct. 28 to 31 at the constituency office (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
