Dr. Barakett remembered by the BMP Foundation for his generous and altruistic character
friends of the BMP Foundation,
It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death of our friend Dr. William J. Barakett.
Following his illness, Dr. Barakett passed away, leaving behind many saddened patients and friends but, above all, also leaving an immense inspiration for the future of medicine.
The BMP Hospital Foundation team, the President and all members of the Board of Directors would like to extend their deepest condolences to his family. Our hearts go out to every person in the Brome-missisquoi Community who is affected by his much too early passing.
Dr. Barakett was much more than a doctor. He was a co-founding member of the BMP Foundation, its Vice-president and President from 1989 to 2001. Through fundraising and philanthropy, he has raised millions of dollars to improve healthcare services in our region. He was also Head of the Medicine Department of the BMP Hospital for 20 years. Last May, we presented him with the George Bristol Award for his exceptional and sustained volunteer commitment to the BromeMissisquoi Community.
A recipient of the Order of Canada, Dr. Barakett was recognized as a family physician who went above and beyond the call of duty. Respected for his extensive expertise in addiction treatment, he has given over 30 conferences per year to groups of physicians to raise awareness of other topics such as chronic pain, misuse of opioids and solutions offered by medicinal cannabis.
Involved in many organizations of Québec Medicine, as well as as President of the Butters Foundation, the list of his accomplishments would be too long to include here. We shall remember his generous and altruistic character. Always looking for the best solution for his patients and caring about the well-being of every member of his community.
Rest in peace Dr. Barakett, you leave behind a united, yet saddened community ready to take over all your projects.
Thank you for all you have done.
