Richmond 50+ Club start fall season

-

It was a bright sunny day when five tables of players came out for the start of the Richmond 50+ Club gatherings on Monday, September 9 at the Richmond Melbourne United Church. Four new people joined the regulars and hopefully they’ll continue to come often, Ann & Ellis Clark, Evelyn Fraser and David Hughes. At the conclusion of the afternoon, high score was earned by the table of Matty Banfill, Linda Badger, Shirley Beasley and Helen Gallup. Low score was celebrated by the table of Claude & Shirley Letourneau, Vera Hughes and Harry Morrill.

On another sunny Monday afternoon, the 16th, seventeen folks turned up to play “500.” At score-counting time, Freda Coote came out on top with a score of 3900, followed by Claude Letourneau with 3660 points. Low score honours were awarded to Bev Jones.

The 23rd was a rainy Monday but seventeen ardent players showed up for Military Whist. Playing with three dummies, an entertaining afternoon followed. At the conclusion of the games, high score was earned by the table of Ann & Ellis Clark, Lori Grainger and Claude Letourneau. With the cut of the cards, a tie was broken for low score, the winners being Vera Hughes, Clifford Lancaster, Jim Stevens and Mr. Dummy.

Twenty people were eager to play “500” on the 30th and after all was said and done, high score was earned by Jim Stevens with 4460 points. He also successfully made a 10 no-trump hand – congratulations. Second place was earned by Ron Jones with 5440 points. Lori Grainger had the honour of low score.

Each week, the afternoon closed with a delicious lunch supplied by members. It was also a time of fellowship. Everyone is welcome and we hope you will join us in October.
