Bell tower tours to explore religious heritage of the region
This weekend will be the second edition of the Balade des clochers (bell tower tour), a tourism project, offering visitors a variety of activities to showcase the region's religious heritage.
Organized by the Archdiocese of Sherbrooke, seven churches selected on the territory of the Archdiocese of Sherbrooke will welcome visitors over the weekend to enjoy guided tours, concerts, tastings or craft exhibitions. It will also be an opportunity to learn more about the history of these churches.
The churches participating in the Balade des clochers are:
Saint-esprit in Sherbrooke
The Archdiocese Chapel
Sainte-bibiane in Richmond Saint-hippolyte in Wotton in Sherbrooke
Saint-françois-xavier in Saint-théophile in Racine Sainte-anne in Sainte-anne-de-larochelle
"In Quebec, several municipalities were created at the same time as their churches. The Balade des clochers not only tells the story of these places of worship, but also revives the collective memory of these places," explained Eliane Thibault, organizer of the Balade des clochers.
Each church has its own program. For more information, visitors can obtain the event brochure at the Sherbrooke tourist information office or in the churches of the Archdiocese of Sherbrooke. The information is also available on the Facebook page Balade des clochers and on the website of the Archdiocese of Sherbrooke. Saintfrançois-xavier-de-brompton
In addition to the scheduled activities, a photo exhibition has been on display since Sept. 29 at the Basilica-cathedral Saint-michel in Sherbrooke.
The work of photographer Marcel Morin, on display until Oct. 20, is being auctioned as part of a silent auction, the proceeds of which will be donated to AMEN St-michel for heritage preservation. The works presented highlight the architecture of the Cathedral, the archdiocese and the private chapel.
