Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke launches Virtual Art Hive

-

The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke is inviting the population to take part in their virtual Art Hive this Sunday, April 5th, at 1 p.m.

The concept of an Art Hive was coined by art therapist Dr. Janis Timm-bottos to create solidarity around art. They are free workshops where everyone is welcomed as an artist.

Art Hives serve as spaces of well-being, sharing, and inclusion. Various creative materials are usually provided to promote giving and sharing and the workshop provides no instructions. They are meant to be autonomous experiences where creativity, learning, and sharing is encouraged.

Art Hives align with the vision of Musée des beaux-arts as they promote sharing, social inclusion, and the democratization of arts and culture which helps break down assumptions about the museum environment.

With the current closure of all cultural institutions, the MBAS is launching an online version of its workshop on Zoom; a video conferencing platform.

From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. the public is invited to create pieces of art around the theme ‘The Essentials’ with art therapist Emmanuelle Meunier.

Meunier practices art therapy with a diverse set of clientele and she is passionate about the health benefits of artistic expression. She studies alongside Art Hive founder Janis Timm-bottos and is expected to establish the second Art Hive in Quebec at MBAS this fall.

Andy Bourgeois, a keyboardist, will also be there during the Art Hive to provide music throughout the workshop.

A Facebook group has also been created so that these pieces of art can be shared and people can interact together at facebook.com/groups/rucheartmbas.

Access to the Museum’s Art Hive is free on the first Sunday of every month and no reservation is required.
