Banana-berry-kefir smoothie in 2 minutes (no sugar added)

- Didi Gorman By Didi Gorman

Do you like smoothies? This is a rhetorical question, I’ll just assume everybody does. Smoothies are very versatile and easy-peasy to make at home. In these unusual times, when moods are often low and we may lack the motivation to engage in complex cooking endeavors but still crave a treat, making a smoothie can offer a quick fix. It’s super simple to make, still counts as cooking, and is refreshing and sweet and fun (and creative!). In short, it checks quite a few mood-boosting boxes.

Our smoothie today is based on kefir, which is similar to yogurt but is tangier and more liquid. Ripe bananas will supply the sweetness and a selection of frozen berries will provide the colour and chill.

Depending on our choice of berries, we can achieve many different hues: from lilac (blueberries) through rosy pink (strawberries) to a variety of fuchsias (mixed berries). It’s all in the ratios of berries to the other ingredients and the type of berries we choose. The flavor too, will vary according to our selection.

Other possible tweaks: for a sweeter smoothie (without adding sugar), change the ratios to include more bananas (very ripe) and fewer berries. If you like your smoothie thicker, omit the milk and use less kefir.

Serving in clear glass is a great idea too.
