Sherbrooke adjusts electoral map
Looking ahead to the 2021 municipal election, Sherbrooke’s city council adopted a resolution on the division of its electoral districts on Monday night.
As a result of the resolution, four districts have been modified. These are the districts of Saint-élie, Rock Forest, Carrefour and Golf.
The former border between the districts of Saint-élie and Rock Forest followed a lot line slightly south of Renélévesque Boulevard. The construction of the new road made it possible to adjust the line, resulting in a change for about fifteen electors.
The second modification concerns Émile Nelligan, Alain-grandbois, Gaston-miron, and Gabrielle-roy streets, Pryce road, part of Duvernay road and part of Becket street. These streets will pass from the Carrefour district to the Golf district. This modification was made at the request of Evelyne Beaudin, municipal councilor of the Carrefour district and Marc Denault, municipal councilor of the Golf district in order to better balance the number of electors in each of these districts and take into account existing living environments. 189 electors are affected by this change to the electoral map.
All other districts will retain their current boundaries, including the Borough
of Lennoxville and the district of Brompton which, despite having significantly smaller populations than the other districts of the city, maintain their existing borders through a special status.
Anyone wishing to register opposition to the new changes must write to the city clerk at 191, rue du Palais, CP 510, Sherbrooke, Québec, J1H 5H9, between April 22 and May 7.
