Rainbow Baskets: “Community caring for Community”
ISubmitted by Lois Miller
n recent weeks our worlds and lives have been changed and rocked, and with this change have come anxiousness, uncertainty and stress for many staying at home doing their best to get through. Our community has recognized that this is a difficult time, especially for our families, and wants to find a way to help. The answer has come in the form of a project called, “Rainbow Baskets” where baskets are filled with resources and will be given to families who need a little cheering up! Many organizations have stepped up to lend a hand: Richmond, Danville & Drummondville CLC schools, Valfamille, CJE Richmond, Townshippers’ Association, CASE, LEARN, Tabliers en folie, Maison de la famille Les Arbrisseaux, Literacy in Action are just some in the growing list of the contributors to this initiative.
The idea is to offer baskets that contain health care products, food products, play and or craft items, as well as a list of resources where families can reach out for help within the area if they need it. This “cheer basket” can be requested by a family for themselves, or a basket can also be requested by someone else for a family whom they feel would appreciate it.
The baskets will be available for reservations beginning May 1st, open to all families in the Val-saint-françois as well as families of Drummondville Elementary, St. Francis Elementary and RRHS students. If you know of a family who would appreciate a basket or if you and your family would appreciate a little cheering up please send an email to richmondclc@etsb.qc.ca or call Siu-min at 819-437-4727. There is also a Facebook Page (/Giverainbowbaskets) set up for more information and a link to reserve online.
Community and families are at the heart of this initiative and our hope is that these Rainbow Baskets will bring a little light during these uncertain times, we are all in this together# ca vas bien aller.
