Day camps to reopen June 22
The Public Health Department has given the green light for day camps in Quebec to open on June 22 with safety measures in place including smaller groups and social distancing.
During his daily briefing, Quebec Premier Francois Legault said the news brings with it a big recruitment push for counsellors and supervisors to be ready when the camps open.
Legault said the latest statistics regarding COVID-19 are on a downward trend and encouraging, in order to prevent a spike in infections the premier recommended wearing a mask when out in public, especially on public transit.
Quebec has 45,495 confirmed cases of COVID-19, up 720 from the day before. Of those, 921 are in the Estrie region, which saw its largest daily increase (10 cases) since the end of April.
There were 82 new deaths recorded in the last day bringing the total in the province to 3,800 deaths. Legault pointed out that 25 of the 82 recorded deaths happened more than five days ago and not in the last 24 hours. He added that there are 13,300 confirmed recoveries in the province.
There are 1,504 hospitalizations due to COVID-19, down 41 from the day before. Legault said over the past week the number of hospitalizations decreased by 144. The number of patients in intensive care is 176, a decrease of 7 in the last day and 14 over the past week.
Hi, my name is Nevin Vosinek, I am 12 years old and I caught the biggest fish of my life. I wanted to share the story because I think it’s a rare catch. The fish was a giant northern pike and it measured 50 inches long and it weighed 15 pounds. The teeth were huge and it was a challenge taking it off.
It was just a normal day of fishing on Lake Memphramagog until this fish hit my line. I reeled in the fish from a canoe, using 6 lb line with no leader and a lure (I cannot share its name).
While I am out of school, I was lucky enough to catch this beautiful fish. We ended up releasing it and hope somebody else can one day experience the fight that I did.
Maybe this is a sign of good things to come.
