and on the beaches and ignoring the ‘social distancing’ rules be given stiffer fines for getting together?

Angry in Ayer’s Cliff

Dear Angry: The threat of fines doesn’t seem to have dissuaded the many thoughtless people who are willing to take a chance with their own health and they don’t seem to understand that they are potentially endangering others with whom they may come into contact. One suggestion is that the police simple take their names and create a computer list of such offenders. If and when they show up at a hospital later on the medical staff could consult the list and if their name appears they would automatically go to the end of the line for treatment. Sort of a ‘social triage.’

Dear Tim: This COVID-19 thing is being badly over-hyped, very, very badly. It’s just another flue. Getting the economy started again is huge. So huge. Liberate Canada!

Witless in Washington

Dear Witless: Spend more time listening to your advisor, Anthony Fauci.

Dear Tim: Because of the potential supply problems I, like thousands of other Quebecers, am thinking of growing my own vegetables and maybe getting a few chickens to raise so that I have a guaranteed source of eggs and eventually meat. What do you suggest?

Self-sustaining in Sherbrooke

Dear Self-sustaining: A garden is fun and it’s amazing what you can grow in a small plot. As to the chickens just be aware that they need food, water, a place to roost, a fool-proof fence a source of heat if it gets cold and constant supervision so that they won’t peck the weakest to death. They also smell and they’re stupid. I speak from experience.

Recently The Record launched the ‘Adopt a Page‘ support program, at the suggestion of an 83-year-old reader who believed Townshippers would pitch in to offer support for The Record, now the only print daily newspaper, distributing in English or French in the Eastern Townships.

Readers can show their support for their 123-year-old newspaper with a contribution large or small, one-time or monthly, to offset the cost of publishing a daily newspaper at a time local advertising has evaporated due to business closures during the Covid crisis and distribution costs have risen exponentially due to the loss of our carrier.

Supporters names (not contribution amounts) will be gratefully acknowledged monthly in The Record.

Donations can be sent by cheque to The Record at 6 Mallory, Sherbrooke,qc,. J1M2E2 To make a donation by credit card, call 819-569-9511.

Thank you for allowing The Record to continue to be The Voice of the English-speaking Community of the Eastern Townships.
