A Teenager’s View of Covid-19
Introduction by Louise Smith Writing by Owen Cain Mullins
Owen is a student at Masseyvanier. He portrayed Jimi Hendrix in the school production honouring the 1960’s this year celebrating Massey-vanier’s 50th Anniversary. Owen is very accomplished on the guitar and he was able to “channel” Hendrix very well. When the news came on Friday, March 13, that school would be closed for two weeks, he, like most of his friends, thought it was just going to be a short time holiday. But then the two weeks stretched out longer, and the shutdown became more evident and more real.
In the Townships the elementary schools have reopened in the last two weeks, but the high schools will remain shut until the new school year. There is some communication with the school and some assignments are on line, but it is not the same as being at school.
Here are his views on the situation:
“This Whole Thing Has Taken Too Long”
During this coronovirus event it has been very hard for me to have an open mind.
When I think of how things were just before this pandemic, it is hard to believe we are where we are now. Eventually this time will come to an end, but for now we are strictly asked to continue with social distancing. In my head, I’m kind of going crazy, thinking about how all of this happened. Every day that I look on the news all I see is an increase in cases, which is very stressful to me because I just don’t know when it will all end.
Scientists have been looking for a cure. Some have stated that cannabis may help the symptoms go away. That is music to my ears. Schools and stores could open up and people could roam the streets again if a treatment is found. Not only for me, but a treatment would be a big relief.
Things are starting to change, little by little. Now we are able to go out of our houses, when before we were all quarantined. HYGIENE is the number one thing that is strictly asked from everyone. We don’t want to do a recycle and have to do the quarantine all over again. For now the government is reopening elementary schools but the high schools remain closed until the fall.
At this point I’m going nuts! I am frustrated, agitated, and aggravated. This whole thing has taken too long!
