Richmond cleans up the Saint-françois River
The City of Richmond recently initiated several major clean up operations along the Saint-françois River thanks to low water levels.
Employees from the Richmond Canoe-kayak Centre led the charge, collecting several bulky items along the river. According to a press release, the clean up team found 15 tires of all sizes, rusted metal rods, pipes and aluminum cans.
The Canoe-kayak Centre, which is operated by the city, has been open since 2005. Adventure seekers can explore the river through self-guided and guided tours. People can rent a kayak or canoe from the centre.
They also offer two different routes: the Richmond-ulvertion trail at 10km and the Windsor-richmond trail at 17km. Despite the pandemic, the canoe-kayak centre has been particularly busy this summer.
The centre has seen 384 visitors to date, 100 more than at the same time last summer. The press release states that the Richmond Canoe-kayak Centre set a record with 1,577 visitors in 2019.
