Trinity Anglican Church organizes muffin drive for Cowansville paramedics

- By Cassandra Pegg Special to Brome County News

On Friday Sept. 25, several members of the Trinity Anglican Church in Cowansville gathered at the ambulance station on Miner Street to give thanks to the workers who have been carrying on in these difficult times.

Dawn Larin is the orchestrator behind the idea of a muffin drive. The event was intended to applaud the dedication and hard work of paramedics. The numerous homemade muffins brought by the members were graciously accepted.

“We felt that those people really needed thanks,” explained Larin, who lives in town and often witnesses ambulances rushing to those needing aid. “It’s hard times and still they continue to do their job with a smile.”

She also organized a similar event in May and has plans to give the ambulance workers some Christmas treats as well come the holidays. The members of the Church seem eager to give back to the community in this way.

Claude Pariseau represented the congregation and gave a prayer of thanks. He explained that COVID has made the jobs of people who work in fields related to health very different to normal times. “It’s not easy,” he said.

The muffins are a simple (and delicious) gesture of kindness in a time where such gestures are most needed.

“They’re good,” Pariseau said with a smile, “I did taste the ones I made.”

Larin, who was sporting a rainbow mask and earrings in true ‘Ça va bien aller’ style for the event, discussed how there is often a lot of talk about the police and firefighters but rarely do paramedics make headlines. “I’m sure they’ll appreciate them,” she said of the baked goods.

Larin was happy to report that no two recipes were the same. There is certainly no one more deserving of generous acts in this time than essential workers such as ambulance station personnel.
