Sweet September at Theatre Lac-brome

- BCN Staff

Well into the month of September, there is already a definite feeling of autumn in the air and a sense of nostalgia for seasons passed. September’s TLB Lobby Gallery artist is Andree Amarica, whose exhibit Light is on display until the end of September. For a private appointment, please call 450-242-2270.

Ellen David counts herself very fortunate to have been able to spend some quality time with our busy Mayor of Lac-brome. Some thoughts from their meeting: There is a distinct connection between the path Richard Burcombe might have taken upon retiring from the Sûreté du Québec after 42 years of dedicated service, and the road he is on now. He had visions of working from the heart, to design and create something of beauty and value with his hands. This almost led him to pursue his dream of becoming a carpenter, but urges from friends and followers led him to a different post, where for the last ten years, he has been designing and creating something of beauty and value for the town and community at large. Witnessing his joy as he describes a particular original armoire that he was passionate about, there is no doubt that with that kind of enthusiasm, and under his watchful eye, this hamlet within beautiful

Estrie will rise up to meet the future, and the needs of the citizens and visitors who enjoy it.

Projects such as roads, maintenance, and safety are critical at this time, and ongoing initiativessuch as the Blackwood Dam/mill Pond project and the downtown public square revitalization, may be waiting in the wings, but he is a man on a mission to bring the Town of Lac-brome to the highest standardspossible, something that as a Master

Carpenter he was committed to doing.

In the few spare moments he had during the last months, he decided to tackle what he calls his “never get to do list”, such as a basement reno, and painting his yellow clapboard house and white picket fence, an iconic building reminiscent of his childhood home. A heart, mind and hands at work... and that is why we call Mayor Richard Burcombe, the Master Carpenter of Lac-brome!
