- Record Staff

The Maison Aube-lumière is holding its popular FriperieBoutique fundraising event for the next month, a fall-themed thrift store with a wide variety of new and used clothing and accessories for women.

The store, located at 2655 rue King O., Local 132, Sherbrooke, is open Wednesday to Saturday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., except on Fridays when it closes at 7 p.m., from Sept. 30 to Oct. 31. The mission is to raise money for cancer patients staying at the palliative care centre.

For nearly 30 years, the Maison has hosted people with advanced stages of cancer free of charge.

The volunteers and staff provide residents with high quality palliative care and a caring environment, but they need to raise $1.2 million annually in order to meet their standards.

“We are gradually resuming fundraising activities in order to maintain free stays for patients with advanced cancer. Maintaining the high quality of our personalized care, respecting the philosophy of palliative care and accompanying families is our priority,” said Christian Gagnon, executive director of Maison Aube-lumière.

The thrift shop offers Sherbrooke residents an opportunity to rejuvenate their wardrobes and donate to the Maison at the same

time. The organization is reminding people that cancer continues to change the lives of many people around the world, regardless of the pandemic.

Aube-lumière’s volunteers spent the last several weeks assorting, cleaning and preparing the layout for the store. According to a press release, the clothes and accessories are all well-priced and affordable; all of the money collected will be used to benefit the patients.

People visiting the FriperieBoutique need to respect Quebec’s health and safety measures, which means disinfecting hands, physical distancing and wearing masks. The volunteers at the Maison are hoping to raise $40,000 during this event.
