No Nez Rouge campaign this holiday season

- Record Staff

Because of the health risks associated with COVID-19 and the impact it would have on the logistics of the service, Nez Rouge has chosen not to go forward with its safe ride campaign this year.

The decision was made collaboration with Public Health.

Nez Rouge will, however, continue its mission of promoting responsible consumption by adapting to the exceptional situation.

“The safety of our volunteers, our clients and our local contractors has always been the priority of our actions,” Jean-philippe Giroux, Executive Director of Opération Nez Rouge said in a press release. “Our choice was carefully considered, and it was not without emotion that we made the decision. We are convinced that great actions will remain possible in during the holiday season and, until then, we remind everyone to plan their safe return home.”

Opération Nez Rouge will unveil details of its 2020 awareness campaign, but without a drivehome service, during the month of November.

The holiday safe ride organization encourages the population to plan a safe return home at all times by calling a family member, a cab or by arranging for a driver before heading out for the evening.

Operation Nez Rouge is present in more than 100 communities across Canada, including more than 60 in Quebec.

Last year the campaign drove 69,029 Canadians home safely, 52,578 of whom were in Quebec and 4,997 safe rides took place in the Sherbrooke metropolitan area.
