“Lights, camera… action!” at Pettes Memorial Library

- Submitted by Pettes Memorial Library

It was a busy scene around Pettes Memorial Library last week as the stately building played a starring role in the upcoming TV series, Republic of Sarah. Cast as Town Hall in Greylock, a fictional New Hampshire community, Pettes was host to scores of actors, extras and crew.

The original schedule for filming was waylaid last spring by COVID-19. So too was the capital fundraising campaign for the expansion project we announced in January. The time, however, is being well used to refine plans, pursue funding opportunities, and collaborate with our partners at TBL. We remain confident that within the next few years a bigger, better Pettes will play its most important role, serving the community from the heart of a spectacular new town square.

In the meantime, despite COVID, Pettes is open. Health advisories prevent the use of the computers and the reading room for researching and relaxing, but members are welcome to come in, one person or family “pod” at a time, to borrow books and DVDS. There’s lots new on the shelves (a pandemic is no time to run out of “good reads”), and if you browse our catalogue online you will find it’s easier than ever to access lists of new additions to various collections. Library hours are currently Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (Please check pettes.ca for changes if our pandemic zoning changes.)

Finally, our annual fundraising letter went out recently. Thanks to everyone who contributes! Your donations will ensure the day to day operation of your Library.
