Emmanuel United Church in Cowansville during Code Red times

- By Louise Smith

Now that our region is in the red zone it means changes to the services that have restarted at Emmanuel United Church in Cowansville. According to government restrictions, places of worship can remain open with a maximum of 25 people and an attendance register must be kept. To help with the seating plan, the church is asking that reservations be made, before the Sunday, by contacting Vicky Duke at 450-955-1948.

Services will continue at 11 a.m. on Sundays as long as the protocols are monitored and strictly followed. The windows in the sanctuary will be open during the service, so dress warmly for the weather. This is similar to the call for air circulation in the schools. Face masks must be worn at all times, completely covering the nose and going under the chin. Those leading the worship service can lower their masks when speaking as long as they remain twenty-five feet away from the nearest person in the congregation.

Only the soloist or duo in the Worship Team can sing and a reader or leader are the only ones who can speak out prayers.

The congregation can only “lip sync” hymns and prayers due to the aerosol projection if real singing or speaking is happening.

The service is also broadcast via Zoom every Sunday at least while we are in the red zone. If anyone wants to know the Zoom coordinates, they can email the church office at capcchurchoffice@ bellnet.ca. Rev. David Lefneski also leads a service every second Sunday at Stanbridge East United Church at 9:30 a.m.
