I see poppies in the fields. We stand for the veterans. Remembrance Day is something that everyone needs to remember on this day. We will cheer for you. Thank you for helping us keep Canada safe. We will cheer for the people who died a long time ago. Veterans are our heroes. Thank you for not giving up on our country. Far away they fight so we can continue to live in peace.

Remembrance Day
All the soldiers who fought for us
We shall remember them in peace
They fought to protect their land and lives
So we could all live
If they were not there we would not be what we are
We respect the ones who fought for us by wearing poppies
At war you were cold, you were hot
At war you were starving, you suffered
Today we want to thank you,
Thank you

The Doves Will Fly
The doves fly up so high just like soldiers in the sky
They bring peace to those you know
All is safe and full of glow
The doves will fly above the clouds
Soaring peacefully without any sounds
And when the doves reach the ground
The sound of bugles may still be heard from around
It is not time to shed tears
For they will be remembered with love and not fear
Take someone’s hand and hold them near
The doves will come to wipe away the tears Listen now to what I say
Put your hand on your heart and begin to pray A moment of silence to those who helped create The peaceful world we live in today
The doves will fly up so high just like the soldiers in the sky
They bring peace to those you know
All is safe and full of glow have not participated in the annual competition. The Legion, branch no. 99, has sponsored winners for posters and writing, for decades, at Heroes’ Memorial. President Robert Bouthot was pleased that the students at the school got involved this year.
Nine classes made posters and four classes wrote essays or poems. There will be three winners per class locally. The top entries will go on to the provincial level and any winners at that level will go on to Ottawa to compete at the national level.
Over the years students at Heroes’ Memorial have won at both the provincial and national level.
Here are the top four pieces of writing.
