Why is would be allowed

development is essentially being planned on all sides. He expressed particular concern about the fact that submerged traps are allowed, because of the fact that they might be less visible to passers-by and dangerous to small children or pets.

“It may never become an issue, but I just don’t see why it would be allowed,” the Lennoxville resident said.

Sherbrooke’s city council just revised its regulations on hunting zones in the city, with the focus of the discussion being on animal control and limiting the number of collisions with deer in the city limits. That change, however, actually increased the section of what is coming to be known as the Boisé Ascot-lennox in which bow hunting and trap use is allowed, rather than reducing it.

Rourke shared that he recently expressed his concerns to Lennoxville Borough President Claude Charron, but was simply told that the decision on whether or not to allow hunting on private property is up to the landowners.

“I just got the impression it was more of a reason for not doing something than anything else,” he said, explaining that when pressed on the matter, Charron said that a request for a zoning change would have to come in writing.

Asked about the issue, Charron reiterated the same point about private property to The Record before adding that he was not actually certain of whether a citizen who does not own the land in question can request a zoning change.

The borough president did say that hunting blinds and treestands, which have been spotted in the woods before, are now illegal, and that no one is allowed to hunt within 150 metres of a building or road, but he stressed the idea that the call about where hunting is allowed is more in the hands of property owners than the city.

“The thing is, it’s always been allowed,” he said, arguing that any citizen who is concerned about the things happening on private property should take their concern to the owner of that property.

The city’s new map of where different kinds of hunting are and are not allowed, as determined by the city council, can be found on Sherbrooke’s website at https://www.sherbrooke.ca/fr/viemunicipale/actualites/147/nouvellesdelimitations-des-zones-de-chasse
