Quebec going green next Monday

- Record Staff

Every region of Quebec will be moved to the green alert level as of this coming Monday, June 28. This news marks a significant change in the restrictions in place, including gatherings of up to 20 people at one table outside, although it still does not represent ”normal,” and people in the province are still urged to act with caution and care when engaging in activities with a higher risk of virus transmission, particularly if not fully vaccinated.

The province also announced that preventative isolation for close contacts is no longer required in the case of individuals who are considered adequately vaccinated. For this purpose, a person is considered adequately vaccinated seven days after receiving their second vaccine dose.

The Province of Quebec reported 84 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total number of people infected to 374,095 and the total number of active cases to 1,225. There were four new deaths, for a total of 11,195 since the start of the pandemic, but hospitalizations decreased by seven, to 161. Of that total, 40 were in intensive care.

The Eastern Townships added only one new case to its total, even though four new cases were recorded, due to the withdrawal of three previously reported. The total number of active cases in the region was 47.

The region reported no new deaths and only ten hospitalizations, although there was one new person admitted to the previously empty intensive care unit.

A cumulative total of 7,491,684 doses of vaccine had been received by Quebecers as of Tuesday morning, accounting for a first dose in 70.3 per cent of the population and adequate vaccination in 20 per cent.
