Highway 55 being repaved near Magog

- Record Staff

Significant repaving work began Sunday on the northbound lanes of Highway 55 between exit 32, for Sainte-catherine-de-hatley, and the interchange with Highway 10 near Magog. Set to take place in four phases, the work is expected to take about two months to complete.

Phase one of the work will cover the area between exit 32, for rue Saintpatrice and Industriel Boulevard, and exit 33 for route 112 and downtown Magog. For the duration of the work, northbound traffic will be deviated onto one of the southbound lanes, restricting traffic flow to a single lane in each direction. The access ramps will be completely closed until phase one is complete, which is expected to be this coming Friday.

Phase two will begin the following week and take the repaving work as far as route 112 (Sherbrooke road). It will be carried out at night to limit the impact on drivers. Between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Sunday the 11 to the following Thursday, both northbound lanes and all access ramps will be completely closed, but reopened to traffic during the day and on weekends.

In Phase three, the paving will be focused in between exit 33 and the interchange with Highway 10. For this section, both northbound lanes will be closed for the duration of the work.

Phase four will focus on the lane linking the 55 to the 10 west at exit 34 and will also involve the complete closure of both lanes of the highway as well as the access ramp.

Throughout the work, detour routes will be marked with signs and also posted online at quebec511.info.

The work being done represents an investment of roughly $4.1 million and is a part of the transport ministry’s 2021-23 road work investment plan.
