Cross-border travel restrictions reduced for fully vaccinated travelers

Beginning Monday, July 5, 2021, fully vaccinated travelers arriving by land or air who are eligible to enter Canada and who comply with specific criteria will not be required to quarantine, complete a test after eight days, or stay at a government mandated hotel to await their on-arrival test result.

Travelers must still submit their proof of vaccination using the most up-to-date version of the Arrivecan mobile application prior to arriving at the border.

There are no changes to restrictions for travelers who are not fully vaccinated, and nonessential crossborder travel continues to be prohibited. To be considered fully vaccinated, a traveler must have received the full series of a vaccine — or combination of vaccines — accepted by the Government of Canada at least 14 days prior to entering Canada.

Meanwhile, in Quebec, the rules concerning crowds at outdoor public festivals or events continue to shift. After having announced that the maximum capacity of such events could increase from 3,500 to 5,000 last week, the province added that in the case of events where audiences are mainly seated or immobile, the sub sections within that capacity can increase from 250 to 500 people.

In keeping with last week’s announcement of reduced reporting on weekends, the province of Quebec did not record new case numbers on the weekend. As of Friday, the total number of cases of COVID-19 in the province since the start of the pandemic was 375 019, with 841 active cases. The total number of deaths linked to the virus was 11,217, with 110 in hospital and 34 in intensive care.

The next update from the public health department in the Eastern Townships is expected on Monday.
